Robert “Fly” Zavala passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the age of 63. He was born in Raymondville, Texas to Jose and Olga Martinez and a resident of Madera for 50 years. Robert worked as a Machine Operator at Georgia Pacific for 30 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he received the National Defense Service Medal; a Marksman (Rifle M-16).

Robert was an avid fisherman and hunter, he also enjoyed raising his roosters “gallero”.

He was preceded in death by his mother Olga Martinez and his brother, Jr. Martinez.

Fly is survived by his father, Jose Angel Martinez of Fresno, his two sons, Omar Zavala of Fresno and Avery Zavala of Madera, his two daughters, Evonne Ruiz and Phylicia Zavala both of Madera, his two brothers, Joe Zavala and David Martinez both of Madera, and his two sisters, Gladys Avila of Fresno and Maria Elena of Madera. He also leaves behind five grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2017, 11:00 A.M. at Jay Chapel, Madera, CA with an entombment at Calvary Cemetery, Madera, CA
