Tribute

Susan Toschi, wife, mother and grandmother was born August 22, 1951, in Madera, CA, and left this world to be with her Heavenly Father on December 14, 2020. She was the first-born child to Howard and Barbara Glantz and big sister to Janet (Tim) DaSilva, Howard (Howdy) Glantz, and Daniel (Blanca) Glantz. In November 1969, she met the man of her dreams, Robert Toschi, and they married on September 23, 1972. She is survived by her 4 children: Shannon (Brian) Hunt, Marlea (Wyatt) Emmert, Jerett (Cristin) Toschi and Giana (Jose) Hernandez, along with 11 grandchildren, Claudine Shelton, Stan and Lynn Toschi, and by many nieces and nephews and extended family members. She is preceded in death by her parents, Howard & Barbara Glantz, and her brother Howdy.

As a child, Susan was known for her motherly qualities. She tended to her younger siblings with love and care that continued on with her love for her family. During grammar school years, Susan participated in Dixieland 4-H and Valley Twirlerettes. While attending Madera High, she was active in Pep/Cheer and California Scholarship Federation. As a mother, Susan enjoyed serving in Howard School Community Club and Howard 4-H. As a young woman, she became a pilot and enjoyed flying alongside her parents. She and her mother, Barbara, were members of the “San Joaquin Valley Ninety-Nines,” an organization of women pilots. Endless summers, winters, and holidays were spent camping, water skiing at Bass Lake and snow skiing with the Roy Morgan and Bill Ogle families. Those endless memories filled with joy and adventures made hilarious stories everyone told for years to come around the campfire at Beasore Meadows.

Susan began her working career at Bank of America where her skill for numbers thrived and developed into a lifelong partnership with her husband as a bookkeeper/accountant for Toschi Farms. Her love for numbers ensured her balance sheets were always correct to the penny. She also worked for Deniz Packing and Madera County.

As a loving wife and homemaker, Susan maintained a warm, inviting, and beautiful home filled with joy and laughter. With her eye for detail and organizational skills she would host thoughtful and beautifully detailed large family gatherings. From her famous ‘Mashed Potatoes’ dance to ‘Brickhouse’ turned up loud, she will always be remembered for her love for music and dancing.

To all family and friends, Susan was known for her masterful cooking. There wasn’t anything she couldn’t cook, from traditional foods to delicacies. Susan was able to cook with expertise and grace even from a young age. While raising her children, dinner was ready at 6pm every night and there was always plenty to share. Her natural eye for beauty blossomed in her love for gardening and knack for naming every wildflower found at Beasore Meadows; she would always point out every Snowflower she saw. While participating in Madera Home Gardeners, Susan visited and admired countless lush gardens with her garden club ladies. Her own home garden was a place for all to enjoy.

Susan Toschi was a generous, loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will truly be missed. Her style and grace will never be forgotten. She will be remembered for her dedication to the Lord and her family. As in the lyrics of Amazing Grace, “Twas grace hath brought us safe thus far and grace will lead us home.”
