Phyllis and her family gave our community a wonderful place for women to gather for human kindness. At the Patchwork Pansy, I was able to make beautiful things, have contact with community women, get tea and sympathy, find new friends who care, and a little word from God. I was a young mother when I explored the store and her little store supplied a very important foundation of my life. After the store closed, Phyllis always remembered me thru the years; we would meet in the grocery store and we had our hair done at the same places. She was a pillar of our community; just like Nancy Klute; she just exposed us to the joys of art in another way. Miss her already....

We loved Phyllis. Lighting a candle reminds me of Gary banning Phyllis from lighting real candles after almost burning the bathroom up. Only battery operated ones were allowed after that.
