Marjorie Avellar passed away at her home in Madera, CA on February 2, 2017 at the age of 99 with her family.
Marjorie is predeceased by her husband, Arthur, her parents Bartolomeo & Inez Fracchia; both of her sisters and their husbands, Virginia & Thomas Peabody, Lillian & Billy McKinney; and, her grandparents Virginia and Giuseppe Dolio.
Marjorie is loving remembered by her daughters, Kathleen and her husband Larry Parker of Bakersfield, Patricia Avellar and Artye Anne Avellar both of Fresno, and her adopted son Michael Dolio of Sonoma, CA. Also, leaves three granddaughters and their husbands, Susan and Josh Wall, Amy and Travis Kroeker and Rebecca and David Kaser, 6 great-grandchildren George Rice, Henry Rice, Natalie Wall, Lane Kroeker, Jase Kroeker and William Kaser. She was very close to her Fracchia first cousins in Italy and Switzerland they would talk to each other several times a month and they had visited each other many times over the years.
Marjorie was born in Madera, CA on May 19, 1918. She attended La Vina Elementary in Madera. She graduated from Galileo High School in San Francisco. In 1939 she earned a Nursing Degree from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in San Francisco. She worked as a Registered Nurse at the Madera Sanitarium before staring a family. Once her children were in school, she went back to work at Madera Sanitarium and Dearborn Hospital. Later, she started working at St. Agnes Hospital and finally retiring in 1994.
Marjorie enjoyed many hobbies and crafts; sewing, crocheting, needlework, and gardening (of which she gained many awards at the fair). Also, she enjoyed boating with her husband and was an active member of the Diablo Yacht Club. Marjorie was a member of the Italian Catholic Federation, Young Ladies Institute, Altar Society, and St. Joachim’s Parents Club. Her Roman Catholic faith was a part of her life and she spent many hours volunteering for the church and school.
We the family of Marjorie Avellar would like to thank, Doctors Dickran Gulesserian, Michael Gen, Thomas Hackett and the Staff of Bright Horizon Hospice for the loving care our mother received.
Rosary Service will be held at Jay Chapel in Madera, on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at 5 PM, a Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church on Monday, February 12, 2018 at 11 AM with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Madera, CA.
In lieu of Flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joachim’s School or the American Cancer Society.
