Maria del Refugio Alvarez, age 94, a native of Ayotlán Jalisco, Mexico and a resident of Madera, CA for 26 years, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018 in Fresno, CA. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joachim Catholic Church in Madera.

Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Alvarez in 1996.

She is survived by her 6 children: Javier Alvarez and Guillermo Alvarez both of Mexico; Carlos Alvarez of Texas; Maria de los Angeles Ascencio, Martha Alonzo and Betty Ortega all of Madera, CA. Maria is also survived by her 22 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 8:00 am to 9:30 am at Jay Chapel in Madera. Recitation of the Rosary will be on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Joachim Catholic Church with a Mass of Christian burial following at 10:30 am at the church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Madera.
