Lupe Murillo, age 97 of Firebaugh, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Clovis Community Hospital, surrounded by her loved ones. Lupe was born Lupe Quiroz on August 8, 1920 in Houston Texas, the daughter of Juan and Petra Maldonado Quiroz. She was one of 5 children born to the immigrant couple who were originally from Mexico. Lupe could recall historical events of the Mexican Revolution from her childhood that had been related to her by family members.

Lupe and her family later moved to California and settled on the westside of the San Joaquin Valley in the farming community of Firebaugh. Lupe has resided in Firebaugh for 63 years and has experienced many changes to the community over the years. She worked for a period for the Firebaugh School District as a Cafeteria Assistant. Lupe was well liked by the community always ready to lend a helping hand or be of assistance. She would often interpret for non-English speaking friends, drive them to Doctor visits in Fresno, and was ready to make sure the neighborhood children made it to school on time if they missed the school bus. Lupe was a great cook and enjoyed cooking for others, and in her free time you could find her reading books. She was an active member in her parish of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Firebaugh.

In addition to her parents and siblings Lupe was preceded in death by her husband Mike H. Murillo in 1955, by a son Ray and by one grandchild.

Lupe is survived by her children, Ramiro Murillo and his wife Alice of Dos Palos, Rene Murillo of Fresno, Michael Murillo of Firebaugh, Elodia Trujillo of Firebaugh, Margaret Camacho of Firebaugh, and Alice Thompson and she husband James of the Madera Ranchos. Lupe is the beloved grandmother "Amma" of eleven grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Firebaugh, beginning at 11:00 A.M., followed by a Recitation of the Rosary at 12:30 and Celebration of the Mass at 1:00 P.M.

Interment will follow in the Dos Palos Cemetery.
