Joan R. Nelson passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 in Madera at the age of 75. She was born in East Liverpool, Ohio and a resident of Madera since 1975. Joan and Rulon were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Saint George, Utah, Temple on her 26th birthday, 6/29/68.

Joan was a school teacher for 51 years until her retirement in 2016. She taught school in Porterville, CA, Salt Lake City, Utah and St. George, Utah, and later in Madera as a substitute teacher. She was a graduate of BYU class of 1965. Joan was a Den Mother and Cub Leader for years. She served in various church callings in Primary and Relief Society Presidencies and she taught in Sunday school and Young Women’s.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Rulon J. Nelson in 2010 and her daughter Sarah Jane Nelson in 1980. She is survived by her children, Jonathan Nelson and his wife Tamara, Jennifer Jones and her husband Layton, Zadok Nelson all of Madera, her siblings, Ed Willis of Sacramento and Janice Tracy of Rancho Cordova, CA. She also leaves behind twelve grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on: Thursday, February 1, 2018 from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Jay Chapel, Madera, CA

Funeral Service will be held on: Friday, February 2, 2018, 11:00 am at The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints, Madera, CA

Interment to follow at: Arbor Vitae Cemetery, Madera, CA
