Evangelina "Pati" Rodriguez

Evangelina “Pati” Rodríguez, a beacon of faith, courage, and boundless love, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 26th, 2024, surrounded by her mother, siblings, nieces, and nephews in prayer. Born on January 11th, 1965, in Tepuzhuacan, Nayarit, Mexico, she was the fifth of nine siblings. Her nickname "Pati" was a gift from her younger and inseparable sister, Amparo, who lovingly adapted her birth name in her own way.
 
Pati is survived by her devoted mother, Herminda, her father, Marcos, and eight siblings: Carlos (Leticia), Bertha (Felipe), Araceli (Francisco), Alma (Juan Jaime), Amparo, Julia, Clyde (Elizabeth); and Monica (Chris). Her legacy continues through her ten nieces, ten nephews, five great-nieces, six great-nephews, extended family, many godchildren, and countless friends who adored her.
 
In her earliest years, Pati and her family lived in a borrowed dilapidated home in Tijuana until her parents built a home out of scrap materials alongside the Tijuana River. In the early seventies, her family immigrated to Los Angeles, then moved a year later to Madera after facing financial hardship. While barely a teenager, Pati contributed to her family’s survival by working with them in farm fields throughout the Central Valley, honing her fierce resilience, determination, and tenacity.
 
She found joy and pride in her achievements – receiving a Golden Glove award in softball at Ripperdan Elementary School, excelling at La Vina Elementary School, graduating from Madera High School in 1983, receiving a cosmetology license, and earning a liberal arts degree from Fresno City College. Her compassionate heart led her to work in service to others, first as a certified nurse assistant and finally in religious service.
 
Pati's spiritual journey was as inspiring as it was profound. From cohosting a faith-based television program, delivering spiritual talks on radio and at national conferences, to becoming a youth ministry coordinator for the Diocese of Fresno, she inspired countless young souls and adults. Her brief time with a contemplative order of nuns in Texas deepened her spirituality, guiding her to live a consecrated single life filled with purpose and service. She aspired to share her testimony as a published author. Her appreciation for nature, thoughtful gift-giving, and the simple joys of life brought light to all around her.
 
No period in Pati’s life embodied her faith, resilience, and grace as did her years living with breast cancer, diagnosed in 2015 and progressing to stage four metastasis in 2019. Even in her final days she never complained about her suffering or questioned her faith.
 
Her love for her family knew no bounds. In her final years, Pati dedicated herself to caring for her mother, exemplifying unconditional love and devotion. Her bond with her siblings was unbreakable, and she embraced her nieces and nephews with all the love of a mother.
 
Pati was also a faithful friend who cherished her friendships deeply and nurtured them by sending almost daily motivational messages, uplifting words, and heartfelt conversations. Since her passing, her family has received countless testimonies from friends whose lives she influenced.
 
As we bid farewell to our beloved Pati, we celebrate her indomitable spirit, her unwavering optimism, and the profound impact she had on all who knew her. Her legacy of love, faith, and courage will continue to shine brightly in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Pati. Your love and light will be cherished for an eternity.


Evangelina "Pati" Rodríguez, un faro de fe, valentía y amor sin límites, falleció en paz el martes 26 de marzo de 2024, rodeada de su madre, hermanos, sobrinas y sobrinos en oración. Nacida el 11 de enero de 1965 en Tepuzhuacán, Nayarit, México, fue la quinta de nueve hermanos. Su apodo "Pati" fue un regalo de su hermana menor e inseparable, Amparo, quien adaptó amorosamente su nombre de nacimiento a su manera.
 
A Pati le sobreviven su devota madre, Herminda, su padre, Marcos, y ocho hermanos: Carlos (Leticia), Bertha (Felipe), Araceli (Francisco), Alma (Juan Jaime), Amparo, Julia, Clyde (Elizabeth); y Mónica (Chris). Su legado continúa a través de sus diez sobrinas, diez sobrinos, cinco sobrinas nietas, seis sobrinos nietos, familia extendida, muchos ahijados e innumerables amigos que la adoraban.
 
En sus primeros años, Pati y su familia vivieron en una casa prestada en ruinas en Tijuana hasta que sus padres construyeron una casa con materiales de desecho junto al río Tijuana. A principios de los años setenta, su familia emigró a Los Ángeles, y un año después se mudó a Madera después de enfrentar dificultades financieras. Cuando apenas era una adolescente, Pati contribuyó a la supervivencia de su familia trabajando con ellos en los campos agrícolas de todo el Valle Central, perfeccionando su feroz resistencia, determinación y tenacidad.
 
Encontró alegría y orgullo en sus logros: recibió un premio Guante de Oro en softbol en la Escuela Primaria Ripperdan, sobresalió en la Escuela Primaria La Viña, se graduó de la Escuela Secundaria Madera en 1983, recibió una licencia de cosmetología y obtuvo un título en artes liberales de Fresno City College. Su corazón compasivo la guió a el servicio a los demás, primero como asistente de enfermería certificada y finalmente en el servicio religioso.
 
El viaje espiritual de Pati fue tan inspirador como profundo. Desde ser coanfitriona de un programa de televisión basado en la fe, dar discursos espirituales en la radio y en conferencias nacionales, hasta convertirse en coordinadora del ministerio juvenil de la Diócesis de Fresno, inspiró a innumerables almas jóvenes y adultos. Su breve tiempo con una orden contemplativa de monjas en Texas profundizó su espiritualidad, guiándola a vivir una vida consagrada llena de propósito y servicio. Aspiraba a compartir su testimonio como autora publicada. Su aprecio por la naturaleza, su atenta entrega de regalos y las sencillas alegrías de la vida trajeron luz a todos los que la rodeaban.
 
Ningún período en la vida de Pati encarnó su fe, resiliencia y gracia como lo hicieron sus años viviendo con el cáncer del seno, diagnosticado en 2015 y que progresó a metástasis en estadio cuatro en 2019. Incluso en sus últimos días nunca se quejó de su sufrimiento ni cuestionó su fe.
 
Su amor por su familia no conocía límites. En sus últimos años, Pati se dedicó a cuidar a su madre, ejemplificando el amor incondicional y la devoción. Su vínculo con sus hermanos era inquebrantable y abrazaba a sus sobrinos con todo el amor de una madre.
 
Pati también era una amiga fiel que apreciaba profundamente sus amistades y las alimentaba enviándole mensajes de motivación casi a diario y conversaciones sinceras. Desde su fallecimiento, su familia ha recibido innumerables testimonios de amigos en cuyas vidas influyó.
 
Al despedirnos de nuestra querida Pati, celebramos su espíritu indomable, su optimismo inquebrantable y el profundo impacto que tuvo en todos los que la conocieron. Su legado de amor, fe y coraje seguirá brillando intensamente en nuestros corazones. Descansa en paz, querida Pati. Su amor y su luz serán apreciados por una eternidad.
