Don Hornback, retired General Contractor, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at the age of 87, in Madera. Don was born in Cherryvale, Kansas on March 30, 1930 to Dean and Ruby Hornback. At the age of 19 Don eloped with the love of his life Jean, who was only 16, on Christmas day in 1949. Their marriage lasted for over 67 years, showing their children and grandchildren what true love and happiness really was. Don and Jean have lived in Madera for over 40 years, and have made a lasting impact on the community. Don was a member of the Parksdale Betterment Committee, where he was an integral part of having a park built in the community. Don loved to spend his spare time fishing and taking road trips, traveling near and far. Above all else, Don truly loved visiting and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Don would spend hours playing games and teaching them valuable things in his shop.
Don is preceded in death by his parents Dean and Ruby Hornback.
Don is survived by his wife of over 67 years Jean Hornback, his four daughters; Dea and her husband Bill Martin of Arizona City, Arizona, Becky and her husband Doug Cosgrove of Madera, Darinda and her husband Mark Pickett of Madera, and Dawn and her husband Doug Sallade of Seal Beach, along with his brother Archie and his wife Sharon Hornback of Oregon. Don also leaves behind his most prized possessions, his eleven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Don’s family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Sekhon, Dr. Rajpal, and the Madera Rehab Staff, especially the staff at Station 6 for their kindness, care, and generosity during Don’s stay.
